Rural land

Farming in the Future Proof region directly contributes 13.7 percent of the regional Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It also contributes significantly to employment, both directly and indirectly.

From 1991-2001 nearly 3200 ha of farmland was subdivided by urban and rural residential development. If this trend continues it will have a significant long-term impact on the economic base of the region.

In general, urban and rural residential development should be directed away from high quality, unfragmented farmland and existing factory farms.
